Outstanding Consulting Editor
This Psychology of Men and Masculinities (PMM) consulting editor award honors PMM editorial board members for the quality, timeliness, and number of reviews completed.
Eligibility
Eligibility criteria include membership in SPSMM; work clearly related to the psychological study of men and masculinities; work may include quantitative or qualitative research; scholarly reviews of the literature; theoretical models and approaches to treatment. Nomination can be based on a single work published after January 1 of the year prior to the award presentation or thematic scholarship consisting of several works published over the course of many years.
How to Apply
A cover letter detailing the award and the person being nominated.
Two letters of support from individuals other than the nominator.
The nominee's vita
A phone number where the nominated person can be reached (can be included in the cover letter).
Researcher of the Year nominations should indicate publications for which the nominee is being honored.

Winner 2026: James R. Mahalik, Ph.D.
James R. Mahalik, Ph.D., is Professor of Counseling Psychology at Boston College whose scholarship examines masculinity, men’s mental and physical health, help-seeking, gender-role norms, healthy masculinities, and the intersections of gender with race and sexuality. He developed the Conformity to Masculine Norms Inventory and has published extensively across counseling, health, and gender psychology. Mahalik is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and Association for Psychological Science and received APA Division 51’s Researcher of the Year Award. His most recent work addresses precarious manhood and national happiness, gendered racism, and relationships that foster healthy masculinities.
2026 Winner: Micheal G. Curtis Ph.D.
Michael G. Curtis, Ph.D., LMFT, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. His research examines masculinity, mental health, and family relationships among Black American men, including studies on masculine ideology, the transition to fatherhood, and suicide risk. His work that has informed national coverage in outlets like Axios and Capital B and earned the AAMFT Foundation's Outstanding Research Publication Award. He has served as a Consulting Editor for Psychology of Men & Masculinities since 2024 and is being honored with the journal's 2026 Outstanding Consulting Editor Award for his contributions to the peer-review process.
