The rapid rise of AI girlfriends, romantic chatbots, and simulated therapeutic agents has drawn disproportionate interest from teen boys and young men, and clinicians are increasingly encountering this in their caseloads. This Master Class examines the psychological, relational, and gendered factors driving that appeal, introducing the concept of AI-Manipulated Masculinity (AIMM) to explore how companion technologies are marketed to male audiences and how sustained engagement carries both real benefits (reduced loneliness, perceived closeness) and real risks (dependency, distorted relational expectations). Rather than framing AI companionship as inherently harmful, this session equips clinicians to assess it as a signal of underlying relational needs, differentiate healthy engagement from concerning dependency, and intervene with clarity and confidence.
