Researcher of the Year Award
This award honors outstanding published research concerning men and masculinity.
Eligibility
Eligibility criteria include membership in SPSMM; work clearly related to the psychological study of men and masculinities; work may include quantitative or qualitative research; scholarly reviews of the literature; theoretical models and approaches to treatment. Nomination can be based on a single work published after January 1 of the year prior to the award presentation or thematic scholarship consisting of several works published over the course of many years.

Two letters of support from individuals other than the nominator.
The nominee's vita
A phone number where the nominated person can be reached (can be included in the cover letter).
Researcher of the Year nominations should indicate publications for which the nominee is being honored.

2026 Winner: Dr. Bill Johnson
Dr. Bill Johnson is a licensed clinical psychologist, AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, and Staff Psychologist/DEIB Coordinator at the University of Illinois Chicago Counseling Center. His scholarship examines race, gender, sexuality, and mental health, with a focus on Black men's lived experiences. He is the author of the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. Framework, a transformational model for psychotherapy with African American men, and has published widely on anti-racist psychotherapy, mindful self-compassion, Black male identity, and sexual health. Dr. Johnson serves on APA Division 51's Guidelines Revision Steering Committee, as a Consulting Editor for Psychology of Men & Masculinities, and on APA Division 44's Taskforce on Consensual Non-Monogamy and BDSM. He is committed to anti-racist psychotherapy through scholarship, practice, and mentorship, and enjoys traveling.
